P-Life, Japan Inc. Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic Technology would like to proudly
confirm that our proprietary pro-degradant additive "P-Life"
has been proven to meet all the requirements as an Oxo-biodegradable
additive in accordance with ASTM D6954.
ATM D6954 "Exposing and Testing Plastics that Degrade in
the Environment by a Combination of Oxidation and Biodegradation"
consists of the following Tiers.
Tier1: An abiotic degradation test shall simulate or accelerate
the degradation process likely to occur in a chosen application
and disposal environment.
Tier2: The abiotically degraded material is then examined for
the ultimate biodegradability under optional conditions in a simulated
disposal environment such as in soil or in compost.
Tier3: The residual solids from Tier2 are subjected to determination
of the toxicological effects in accordance with one of several
possible test methods such as germination and growth tests with
plants according to OECD guideline 208, and EN 13432.
In terms of Tier2, it has been confirmed through a serial of
testing conducted by SP technical Research Institute of Sweden
("SP) that the biodegradation rate of "P-Life"
dosed PE material showed 80% under a soil burial condition, which
fulfills the requirement of Tier2 (biodegradability) of ASTM D6954.
SP has also informed us that "P-Life" is the first
Oxo-Biodegradable Addictive to be certified under ASTM D6954.

Palm firm reaches design finals

The seventh annual Housewares Design Awards' finalists have been
announced, and a local company is one of 65 finalists!
EZ Bagz, LLC, a West Palm Beach-based company, has introduced
a new trash bag system. EZ Bagz has a bag-in-bag system that nests
12 bags one inside another and that fits most all standard trash
containers. Take a full bag out, and voila! Another one is already
in place. Now you only have to replace the bags once every 12
times!
The eco-friendly bags are 100 percent oxo-biodegradable within
12 to 24 months, leaving no harmful residue. But the bags are
moisture-proof and are actually stronger and more puncture-resistant
than most conventional plastic bags.
The finalists were chosen by an independent panel of judges that
evaluated hundreds of new housewares products. Criteria included
unique appearance, functionality, positioning, innovative technology
or materials, safety, environmental benefits, emotional appeal,
social impact and the ability to meet consumer needs.
Winners will be announced Feb. 3 at the Housewares Design Awards
presentation ceremony and luncheon in New York City.
